Method

The Proof Note.

A structured reading of a financing file, in the order a credit committee reads it, against public standards: the IFC Performance Standards, EBRD requirements, EDGE, PCAF, CBAM, and IFRS S1 and S2.

What a note holds

  1. A score by areaEligibility, environmental and social risk, carbon data and the credit file, as they apply to you.
  2. Conditions, in orderWhat a lender would flag, ranked by what stops a disbursement first.
  3. DocumentsThe document that closes each condition, and your file item by item.
  4. Standards readThe public standard behind every question, and a link that rebuilds the note.

Sample Proof Note

Example: an aluminium exporter selling a third of its output to the EU

56/100

Partial

Fixable gaps. A lender would hold the file until they close.

  • Eligibility Partial 67
  • Environmental and social Partial 67
  • Carbon data Gap 33
  • Credit file Partial 56

Conditions to close, in order

  1. CBAM embedded emissions. Default values are set high on purpose. A competitor with measured data can undercut you on the same tonne.
  2. GHG inventory. Bills are raw data. A lender wants them turned into a Scope 1 and 2 inventory with a stated method.
